For starters, the new bar just looks bbish. But for this series, two major changes have made it look a lot less cool. Although the new front scoop-wedge does look pretty good, that gaping ground clearance looks so tempting for Coyote to get under and grab, for Push to Exit to flip, for Magnetar to rip and flip, and even Hobgoblin could do something there perhaps.Īpex is a bot I have an irrational love for because it has what I like to call a "big f**k off bar", and the red it had last series just looked awesome. Same with Terrorhurtz, some glaring issues have just not been remedied with this version. I like axebots, I swear, but Thor just doesn't do it for me. Also only Blenda was really effective, the others did nothin'. More like The Defenders a whole bunch of not very similar robots that are forced to work together. Now while they do fit their respective names (except Blenda, idk that one could have been silver and white), they also don't really look like much of a swarm. Greeeeat.Īs brilliant as the idea behind The Swarm is, they just don't eat. Oh wait, they got an opportunity heat, so they didn't need upgrades. Nostalgia can only get you so far, Terrorhurtz, and it doesn't look like too much has been done in terms of upgrading, which after what Sabretooth and Aftershock did last series you'd think they'd have fixed those issues they had. Is it great to see a Suicidal Tendencies again? Yes. Instead, Track-tion just sorta looks out of place. I adore Suicidal Tendencies, I really do, but to bring it back with a Razer-looking claw, Vlad-style forks and a hint of blue is not exactly upgrading the look or making it even look similar. Also I can already see the fidget spinner memes coming from their new hinged spinner. Once again the bot looks more gimmicky than effective, and while this gimmicky look is much more effective than other gimmicky looks (coughApocalypsecough) it looks like a bot designed in Robot Arena 2, and will probably be just as effective in battle. Once again Expulsion finds itself on the lower end of my list. Smash looks okay, although it also doesn't look so fun either. The lifter of Crackers once again makes this bot fall flat in terms of looks. It's so sad to see Crackers 'n' Smash plummet so far down my list from last series, but the clusterbot gimmick which impressed me last time has instead made me more confused. But now while the beater gives them some good points, that's distracted by the abysmal wedge it now has along with ugly top wheels (although they do make the bot invertible, which is good) I ask myself Hobgoblin, what happened to you? I loved the egg beater and the awesome wedge that the bot had last series. But a laugh out of the bot does not make it a masterpiece, especially when the satire is representing one of the most hated people on the planet. It is lovely to see the satire side of Robot Wars, and I do get a good chuckle out of this bot. Much like the real man, despite its boast Donald Thump does not make Robot Wars great. It just looks gimmicky, and while Splinter made it work, Apocalypse just can't. The nostalgia of this bot are not good points in my eyes to be honest, as Splinter wasn't my favourite bot back in the day, and Apocalypse has reminded me why I don't like this look. It's Splinter! No, it's the modern version that looks like the Poundland version, Apocalypse. It looks so flimsy and I can't see The Kegs drunkenly making it through any fight. While it reminds me of a classic series bot, that does not help the bot's case when the bots I'm reminded of are ones I find particularly ugly. It should come as no surprise to anyone that The Kegs take my Ugliest Bot Award for this series.
